Pasarela Cibeles Madrid Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2007

Fashion season is in session, with both London and Madrid heating up the wintry months with a week’s worth of fabulous fashion extravaganzas. With London coming to a close, all eyes are on Madrid, and with new collections from designers like Lydia Delgado and Javier Larrainzar, fashionistas will not be disappointed. The international community is also keeping a close watch on Pasarela Cibeles, as last September Madrid’s Spring/Summer parade became the first to put a ban on underweight models. Some Fashion Weeks have followed suit, while others (like Paris, New York, and Milan) have decided to let the designers make the decisions independently. This week, five models in Madrid have already been given the boot for their tiny frames. Just this Tuesday, 18-year-old Uruguayan model Eliana Ramos died of heart failure, just six months after her older sister Luisel died of a similar ailment after not eating for several days. The debate continues on both sides, though all are in agreement that when it comes to Fashion Weeks, unique designs and fierce modeling are more important than a size-zero bod.
