Touted by Warner Bros. as the first event film of 2007 (Sony would argue it was "Ghost Rider"), "300" is a CG-heavy sword-and-sandals epic of the highest order. Based on fanboy-deity Frank Miller's graphic novel, the film recreates the ancient Battle of Thermopylae with cutting-edge digital technology and a scantily-clad cast of hunky soldiers including Gerard Butler as the Spartan leader Leonidas. Director Zack Snyder, who helmed the surprisingly successful 2004 "Dawn of the Dead" remake, honors Miller's revered work with a faithful adaptation, employing blue-screen effects to capture the original's signature look. Nearly all of the film was shot in a studio in Montreal – pretty far from the Greek landscapes created later by the computer. One question will surely be on audiences' minds – how did Butler score those abs?
