38th Annual NAACP Image Awards

Every year the NAACP gives awards to entertainment professionals emblematic of diversity in film, television, and music. Oscar winners Jennifer Hudson and Forest Whitaker took home acting prizes for their roles in "Dreamgirls" and "The Last King of Scotland," respectively, while "Grey's Anatomy" stars Isaiah Washington and Chandra Wilson received awards for their performances. Washington, who has come under fire lately for his behavior on the set of the popular medical show, said he felt "privileged" by the honor. America Ferrera and Vanessa Williams were rewarded for their roles in "Ugly Betty," which was awarded top television honors. As always, the NAACP, which has been pivotal in promoting human rights in the United States for nearly a century, used the show as a platform to support the presence of minorities in the entertainment industry.
