America is the melting pot, and it was in that tradition that the 33rd American Music Awards chose to bring the best acts of 2005 to the stage. From the backwaters of time when hot pink anything and hip sashes ruled all, Cyndi Lauper performed her classic song "Time After Time" with Sarah McLachlan. Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics showed that after more than 30 years and nearly a dozen albums together that they still have what it takes to deserve being recognized as one of the top names in music today. Mariah Carey, who won Favorite Female Artist, opened more than a few eyes when she wore nothing more than a wish while performing her song "Don't Forget About Us," and, Gwen Stefani, in a stunt perhaps orchestrated to show how truly cool she is, descended onto the stage in a gigantic hot air balloon shaped like an ice cream cone and performed a duet with Pharrell.
