The Kaiser Chiefs went in with five nominations and came out with three awards, including Best British Group. Heavy favorite for Best International Album, U2, was pushed aside by the American punk band Green Day and their multi-platinum record, American Idiot. The former British soldier, James Blunt, who was also nominated for five awards, took the prize for Best British Male. But the biggest surprise came from Blunt, who captured the award for Best Pop Act despite facing formidable competition from Madonna and Westlife.
