Of Cuban descent, the gorgeous Christina Milian has appeared
in films with John Travolta and Tommy Lee Jones and has been described as the
urban answer to Britney Spears.
Milian was born on September 26, 1981 in Jersey City but grew
up in Maryland. Milian’s first big role before moving to LA when she was 14 was
in the musical “Annie Warbucks.” The musical was the perfect opportunity for
Christina to demonstrate her abilities as both an actor and a
singer/performer.
Milian next received exposure as a junior reporter for the
Disney Channel. Unlike many other pop stars of her generation, Milian did not
take the opportunity when she had it to become a member of the “Mickey Mouse
Club.” The offer was made, but Milian turned Disney down and moved to LA to chase
her dreams of being a famous actor.
Once in LA, Christina landed several bit parts in films and
television, including “The Steve Harvey Show, “Sister, Sister,” “A bug’s Life”
and “American Pie.” Although her growing acting resume was helping her to gain
recognition, it was her 2000 appearance on Ja Rule’s song “Between Me and You”
that brought her career to the next level. After her success with Ja Rule, she
co-wrote and provided backup vocals for the song “Play” off Jennifer Lopez’s
2001 album “J. Lo.”
Milian’s next step was to go solo. In 2001 her self titled
debut album was released along with the single “AM to PM,” which reached number
5 in the UK and made it to the top 40 in the US. In 2003, her next album, “It’s
About Time,” had two singles shoot up the charts and secure the 22 year old’s
place as a formidable pop force.
Her skyrocketing music career provided her with the chance
to once again put her acting skills on display in the films “Love Don’t Cost a
Thing” (2003), “Be Cool”(2004) and “Man of the House” (2004).
Christina Milian’s future appears to be as bright as it is
busy. With her third album, “So Amazin,” featuring Lil’ Wayne and the Three 6
Mafia, due for release in April and her new movie “Pulse,” starring Ian
Somerhalder, set for March, 2006 promises to be another big year for the young
star.
