Mexican actress Adriana Barraza has lately jumped to the top of the buzz list with her Golden Globe-nominated performance in Alejandro González Iñárritu's epic drama “Babel”. Barraza appeared in a variety of Mexican television programs in the 1990s before a role in Iñárritu’s 2000 film “Amores perros” (as Gael García Bernal’s mother) brought her notice as a talented actress. “Babel”, which also stars Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett, and fellow Globe nominee Rinko Kikuchi, sees Barraza portray a Mexican nanny who inadvertently endangers the children she cares for after miscommunication with patrolmen at the Mexican border. A stunning performance, Barraza deserves her sudden rise to dramatic prominence.
