Jessica Simpson has come a long way from being a just another little girl rejected by “The New Mickey Mouse Show.” Since then,
Simpson has gone on to capture hearts throughout the world with her music, films, and hugely successful reality television
program “Newlyweds.” Born on July 10, 1980, Simpson is the daughter of a former Baptist minister and a Sunday school teacher,
and the sister of Ashlee Simpson.
Her strong voice and love of gospel music led to a record deal with the Christian music company, Proclaim Records,
while she was still in high school. Unfortunately, before her record could be released the record company went bankrupt.
Jessica then was forced to make a difficult decision. She dropped out of high school and went on the road to perform in the
Christian Youth Concert circuit. During the tour she tirelessly promoted and sold her album to her growing number of adoring fans.
Word began to spread about the talent of this gorgeous sensation from north Texas. Soon Columbia Records got word of Simpson, and by 1999 her first album, Sweet Kisses, was on record shelves. Then, while on tour with "98 Degrees", she met and fell in love with Nick Lachey, one of the boy band’s heartthrob crooners. Their romance fueled countless rumors about their affair (Simpson insisted that she was a virgin and would remain so until married) and fed the frenzy surrounding their celebrity. In October of 2002, the two were wed.
When MTV saw the enormous amount of hoopla the couple’s wedding created, it offered them their own reality television show. “Newlyweds” aired for three seasons. The show made the two pop stars permanent household names and created an insatiable demand for anything Simpson. Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey filed for divorced in late 2005, but Simpson is far from calling her time in the spotlight quits. She has an album scheduled to come out in mid-2006 and has her hands full promoting Dessert Beauty, her own line of edible beauty products.
