Pan's Labyrinth

"Pan's Labyrinth" is the most critically acclaimed film of 2006. From visionary director Guillermo Del Toro ("Cronos," "Hellboy"), this tale of war, revolution, and escapism has earned numerous awards and an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Film. "Pan's Labyrinth" tells the story of a young girl forced to live at her new step-father's estate in North Spain in 1944 - the height of Franco-fuelled fascism. Her severe step-father necessitates an escape for the young Ofelia, who retreats into a magical world of strange creatures in which she is a princess. Strangely, it mirrors the repressive, war-torn world that she returns to.
